- By asking questions we can ascertain whereabouts someone is on the suicide continuum, and the type of support we can suggest

You may find it useful to help to calm someone who is dysregulated / operating from flight or flight. Grounding / breathing techniques can help someone to regulate their nervous system. Then relate / connection. Then you can have conversations using the cognitive part of the brain.
