  • By asking questions we can ascertain whereabouts someone is on the suicide continuum, and the type of support we can suggest

  • The further along the continuum, the higher the risk

Keep them talking: Ask open questions

  • What?
  • When?
  • Where?
  • How?

You may find it useful to help to calm someone who is dysregulated / operating from flight or flight. Grounding / breathing techniques can help someone to regulate their nervous system. Then relate / connection. Then you can have conversations using the cognitive part of the brain.
